friesframe: Copenhagen: City of Cyclists

Just bombarding you with good things from my Google Reader today.

Richard Fries (yes, THE Richard Fries) is in Copenhagen for Worlds and writes about the bike culture of the city and the mentality of the planners.

There is no expressway, parkway or highway in the center of Copenhagen. These planners looked around the world and realized that widening highways to alleviate car congestion is akin to punching more holes in your belt to alleviate obesity.

World Championships men’s race

I give Gerard Vroomen a lot of flak elsewhere on the Internet.  However, his blog is often a great read and quite insightful.  He’s been writing about worlds this week, and today shares his thoughts on the Men’s race.

As I saw in 2009 and 2010 at the Cervelo TestTeam, if Thor puts an X on his calendar, he is ready on that date. He can prepare in the Vuelta, the Tour of Britain, at home or in your local spinning class, it does not matter. Thor will be ready, and a ready and focused Thor can win anything.

McSweeney’s Internet Tendency: Notes From an Amateur Spectator at Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Fights: Column 13: Chaos at the College 2.

I’ve really been enjoying the McSweeney’s series “Notes From an Amateur Spectator at Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Fights”. It’s a very interesting viewpoint of a sport so far removed from any that I participate in. And it’s funny, in the way that things on McSweeney’s are.

Tonight we also get to watch the debut fight from Ben McKinley, a former color commentator for this column who has a circumference of 72 inches. Ben claims that this will be his only MMA fight, a once-in-a-lifetime event that happens to take place on his wife’s birthday. His wife’s attitude about this coincidence is best described as tolerant.

Obama Calls For Smog Death To Please GOP (They Still Aren’t Pleased)

I love the Wonkette for hilarious writing like this:

Barack Obama is still diligently working his way down the GOP’s War on Christmas wish list of giant white corporate castles built from the skulls of welfare recipients and two-headed glow in the dark ponies riddled with toxic-sludge-filled DNA…

It’s also the only site I’ve found that accurately parallels my own sadness.

I FOUND SOME THINGS ON THE INTERNET

Thanks to my Internet friend Leah who was excited that I posted a Trale Lewous animated .gif, I was informed of Nathan Barnatt and his awesomeness.

Yes, sometimes I do not know of awesome things on the Internet.

In my defense, I did watch a bunch of the Talking Classics videos a few years ago.

ANYWHO.  THERE’S THIS SWEET VIDEO ALSO.

I love Yelle and dancing and remixes.
