i like the smile and wave approach too.

i also had an experience like richard’s flowers. when i rode across the country i put a USA flag on my trailer. None of the pick up driving middle Americans wanted to drive me off the road with that bad boy in place! I got more thumbs up and friendly waves instead. Of course, that’s not practical for most rides but it just reiterates how humanizing a familiar thing like flowers or a flag can be.

Nothing annoys me more than when the people I’m riding with decide to have a contest to see who can be the biggest douche to a driver after the driver does something stupid (but not aggressive).
