Cyclocross formulas
During the races this weekend, I was thinking about the various formulas that define my (and probably other’s) cross races.
Tim Johnson and Large Jimbo are certainly popular bike racers. But there are lots of other racers who are popular (within their own peer group). This popularity can be defined as:
Popularity=(number of heckles/cheers during the race)*(your finishing place)*(if lapped and pulled, how many laps remaining. Otherwise ignore this.)
So, if you get heckled/cheered 36 times during the race, you finish in 43rd and you get pulled with three laps remaining, your popularity ranking would be 4644 (36*43*3). Compare this to Tim Johnson. He may get a lot of heckles/cheers, but he finishes first! So he might get a Popularity Rating of 60 (60*1)!
Therefore I am more popular than Tim Johnson.
Another thing I was thinking about as I fought to catch and pass people (granted, I was fighting for 45th) was that each person I caught improved my crossresults.com ranking. If only I could figure out a value that each person represented…catching someone would be like earning points.
