Survival
Yes list of things.
1. Most important. I just signed up for the races in Rhode Island today….without realizing that Saturday is 3 hours from Durham, and Sunday is 2 hours. I don’t want to drive that. SOOOOOO does anyone live or is anyone staying near the races this weekend? And if that’s the case, let me sleep on your floor/couch/cuddle with you. I can repay you by serenading you with a lovely rendition of “Run to the Hills”. Or I could make you a mean grilled cheese. If either of these options appeal to you, send me correspondence in the form of electronic mail.
1. Josh Lipka and I went on what we thought would be a nice little cross ride in College Woods today. For those of you not familiar with the wooded area on campus which is usually inhabited by hippies smoking weed and dendrology classes, it offers a bunch of trails and some pretty technical stuff – on a cross bike.
So anyway we go out on a usual area, realize we’ve lost all technical ability in the week it’s been since we rode cross. Then we find a new trail.
Mind you, we went out riding at 3:30. It starts getting dark around 4, and is legitimately dark at 4:30.
So, new trail. Fun trail. Then it ends in a marsh. I think I see a trail through it.
Nope.
We end up walking through a marsh for 15 minutes until we get out of it, into a pine tree area with no discernible trail. We see some people who say that the trail is across the river. So then we walk across the river over a downed tree. With our cross bikes. In mountain shoes, which aren’t known for their traction on moss-covered forest surfaces.
So then we’re on another new trail, and we come out some place that is far from where we started, but we know how to get back.
But….we can’t find the trail.
40 minutes later, we are once again walking through thick brush towards the sound of traffic. We emerge from the woods after hiking around for an hour, onto a dark road.
Yaaaay cyclocross. Josh suggested we change out one-day course to include getting lost and river-fording.
You could probably stay at my house. it’s only 45 min closer, I’m sure you could do better tho. I won’t be there.
I offered a spot to Zoo but he is unsure of being able to make it. We can sleep 2. We live in East Providence about 40 minutes from Wakefield and 25 from Goddard Park.
Last year we put up a couple of guys. Just don’t drink my coffee before the race. Last year it almost killed one of them.
Let me know ASAP so we can get the suite ready.
