This makes me want to throw up

Do you anything about the opening of trade with Japan?

No? Me either.

But that isn’t going to stop me from attempting to write a ten-page paper on the subject!

    Dear Ryan,
I think that the development of trade in Japan really took off in the second half of the 19th century. Japan was largely interested in modernizing its society. They looked to Germany for engineering and invested heavily on things that more modern societies had. I know that Japan went to hiring Generals and Colonels from the US Army in order to defeat the Samurai. That was the US’s initial involvement in making Japan a modern society.
